04 April 2012
It was opening day at the Fluvanna Farmers Market on April 3. Once again the people of Fluvanna can buy truly locally grown fresh produce where the person they meet is the person who grew it.
We are pretty strict about that. Co- manager Jutta Glasscock visits farms to be sure, if they say they grew it, they did! We are unique among markets and CSA’s – where sometimes produce is purchased regionally for resale.
So every Tuesday, rain or shine, between now and the end of August check out Pleasant Grove between 2 and 6 p.m. We have many familiar vendors returning as well as some new ones joining us in the park.
Produce the first week included: lettuce, radishes, kale, swiss chard, pak choy, spinach, turnips, kohlrabi, mushrooms and asparagus. An amazing array of choices after a mild winter this early in the year.
Preparing for holiday and other meals there is Thistle Gate vineyard with wine to taste, pork, lamb and beef as well as breads, pies and other sweet treats.
Plants for your home garden abound along with crafts for home use or gifts.
This is a market of neighbors selling to neighbors. We need the support of the community to be sure it remains a vibrant market. Come out and say hi.
See you Tuesdays.
The Fluvanna Farmers Market is open Tuesdays, April through October from 2 p.m.-6 p.m. at Pleasant Grove on Rt. 53, approximately two miles east of Rt. 15.
