Suspect charged in Columbia shooting

A suspect has been charged in a Friday night (May 5) Columbia shooting, according to authorities.

Floyd Henry Harris, 64, of Palmyra, has been arrested and charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in commission of a malicious wounding, according to a press release from the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a fight in Columbia that resulted in a gunshot wound. When they arrived they found one male with a gunshot wound to the hand and chest, according to the release.

The suspect fled the scene but was soon located. The suspect and victim knew each other, according to the release.

The victim suffered non-life threatening in injuries and was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center, according to the release.

Harris was taken to the Central Virginia Regional Jail, where he is being held without bond. He is scheduled to appear in Fluvanna County General District Court on Tuesday (May 9) at 8:30 a.m.
