Andy Sorrell, Nancy Lee Martin and Shirley Sixteen years ago Seay’s Chapel membership had dwindled down to only three members. Tucked away in a bucolic but isolated area of southern Fluvanna County, the little white country chapel was scheduled to close.  But this week, like a humble veteran who was never properly recognized for his service, Seay’s long history was instead honored on the state and national level.

Congressman Robert Hurt watched Sue Charney make candy.In an effort to better serve small businesses and find out what is uppermost in the minds of his constituency, Congressman Robert Hurt, toured areas in his district, meeting with business people and citizens.

One such place was Fluvanna’s own success story, Red Rocker Candy. Sue Charney started making candy in her own kitchen and then kept expanding the business. Entrepreneur Charney also hung on during the hard times of this current recession.

Fluvanna resident John Atkins helped bring the BBQ  competition to the county.After months of planning, music, BBQ and party lovers will gather from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Pleasant Grove on Saturday (June 23)  for the Fluvanna Chamber of Commerce’s first-ever BBQ, Bands and Brews festival.

John Atkins, owner of The BBQ Connection, joined the Chamber this past year because he said he believes in supporting the community.

Atkins thought the perfect marriage would be his love of BBQ and a festival that would bring people to one of Fluvanna’s most prized parks.

On Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20 an amazing event took place in United Methodist churches all across America. Congregations stepped outside the safety of their sanctuaries to reach out to people where they are. Zion United Methodist in Troy was one of them. Through tenacious teamwork, dedication and unselfish resourcefulness, approximately 60 eager volunteers contributed at least 400 hours of community service in an effort to help “Change the World.”
