Winnners included Pam Batchelor, Andrea Puletti, Peggie Coville and Pat Ronan.Nearly fifty golfers teed off at the Susan G. Koman - Rally for the Cure golf tournament on Tuesday (Sept. 25). This was the fourteenth year for this tournament which is played over the demanding Lake Monticello golf course. This event which helps support the fight against breast cancer raises money for the cause through a $20 per player entry fee and by soliciting a $25 per hole sponsors’ fee. There was also a large raffle that brought in additional funds. Forty-two raffle prizes were distributed, including a driver that was made by long time local golf guru Emil Colmenaris.

The tournament raised $1,860.

123 runners finished the race.The Fork Union 4 miler race held Saturday (Sept. 15) raised about $1,300 for the Fluvanna Education Foundation. Athletes from the Lake Monticello Karate Academy competed in the U.S. National Karate Championships.Something extraordinary happened for Fluvanna County during a weekend in mid-July. Nineteen athletes from the Lake Monticello Karate Academy journeyed to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. to compete against some 4,800 others in the U.S. National Karate Championships.

Coach Cos DiFazio meets with his swimmers.The Jefferson Swim League held its 47th championship swim meet at the Fork Union Military Academy (FUMA) pool on Friday and Saturday July 27 and 28. Cos DiFazio, coach of the Fluvanna Aquatic Sports Team (FAST), noted before the meet that this was the biggest swim meet ever held in Fluvanna County. Over 2,000 youth swimmers, representing 16 teams competed in the event. In addition, almost 600 volunteers were needed to bring an event of this size together and make it a success.
