Master Gardeners sow a rich crop

Irene Burke visited the Friends of the Library on May 4 to talk about the Master Gardeners. In way of background she told us that in 1862 there was an act that created Land Grant colleges. One example of this is Virginia Tech. In 1914 the cooperative extensions were created and this also created the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Finally in 1972 the Master Gardener program was created and the first one was in Washington State. In 1974 one was created in Arlington, Virginia and in 1998 there was one created in Fluvanna.

The poets speak

The poets brought their land to the Friends of the Library meeting on April 6 to read us some of their poems and tell us something about themselves. The three poets were Linda Levokove, Elizabeth Solomon and Lynn Young. They are all award winning published poets with impressive resumes.

The varied history of Keswick Hall

Have you ever dined at Keswick Hall? Have you enjoyed the ambiance and feeling of luxury there? Have you felt you tasted a bit of Eden? Do you know when it was built and by whom? Do you know that two movies were filmed there? Do you know a mystery once occurred there?

Friends think charity

When the Friends of the Library met on Feb. 2 the theme of the meeting was charity. Among our speakers were representatives from Meals on Wheels and the Christian Outreach.
