Gifford.The Lowe’s Heroes national  program helps to improve the communities where Lowe’s customers and employees work and live. Together each store team identifies a community service project to work with annually. This year the Fork Union Community Center and JABA benefited from the generosity of Lowe’s.

What a difference a year makes, or even two years. At the front of the Fluvanna SPCA building, one is greeted by a bright red door, a purple bench and pots of purple flowers. This is a big change from the once stark and cold entryway. Once inside, the walls are painted bright yellow, spring green and aqua blue and everything is clean, neat and organized. This is the work of dedicated volunteers.

Ellen Soloway demonstrated the Feldenkrais Method.   Feldenkrais practitioners came from 10 states and Washington DC to study with Ellen Soloway. There are several local practitioners who also attended the weekend-long training session at the Fork Union Community Center (Aug. 4 and 5). At first glance, one would think it was a yoga class. But then the participants pulled out portable cushioned tables, unfolded them and watched trainer Soloway demonstrate what looked like a form of physical therapy. This form of movement is known at Feldenkrais. Similar to kinetics, it focuses on movement of the body while engaging the mind.
