Lake Monticello Owners’ Association (LMOA) has taken a position in opposition to the application by Aqua Virginia to increase its water and sewer rates. In November 2011, Aqua Virginia filed with the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) for a statewide increase averaging 9.9%. The increase for Lake Monticello residents would be more than 13% for water and more than 11% for sewer. The application comes just months after Aqua Virginia attempted to impose ownership of grinder pumps onto homeowners. Aqua Virginia‘s last rate increase was approved in October 2010.

For those who have never visited Culpeper or have taken a trip with Friends of the Library, this trip was interesting and educational if one is fond of everything historical.

Culpeper is a charming town, brimming with history, three Civil War battles and dinosaurs too. The first stop on the journey was the Museum of Culpeper History. Two guides dressed in Civil War attire explained the stories behind the artifacts and photographs lining the walls of the tiny three room museum and the little house outside known as the Burgandine House. It was about four years ago that Curtis Putnam started a writer’s group in Fluvanna and it began as a small group of writer’s meeting at the Fork Union Community Center. The group began with three then grew to five and so on and these days, the group boasts a diverse group of writers in age and genre. These writers engage their talents in a variety of genres, from romance to mystery, to poetry and non-fiction to humor. They experiment, critique and grow. Add a comment

Fluvanna eighth grader Kayla Corredera-Wells will be competing next week in the Scripps National Spelling Bee with 278 other spellers from across the country.  She’s officially speller number 256.  You can watch her live on ESPN3 on Wednesday, May 30 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
