Due to the extreme heat forecast and large amount of power outages in Fluvanna County, authorities are opening the new Fluvanna County High School cafeteria as a “cooling site” for the public, according to Sheriff Ryant Washington.

The school will be open today (June 30) starting at noon and will remain open until 6 p.m., he said.

A total of 96 homes lost power this morning (June 29) after a transformer blew. Greg Kelly, a spokesman for Central Virginia Electric Cooperative, said “one transformer at the lake has 96 services without power.”
