While the fervor seems to have cooled a bit, there are still those who want the Board of Supervisors to give the schools more money. About 20 people lined the brick walkway leading to the courthouse on Wednesday carrying signs touting the need to fully fund schools.

After meeting in closed session Wednesday (June 6), the Board of Supervisor voted 4 to 1 to adjust the salaries of several county employees and give out $16,500 in bonuses, said Chairman Shaun Kenney, (Columbia) the dissenting vote.

Lightning may have started a basement fire on Haden Martin Road on Friday (June 1).

According to Fire Chief Mike Brent, fire units responded that afternoon around 4 to a fire in the basement of a home. “It was contained to the center of the basement and extinguished. The fire started in the middle of the basement between the floor joists,” Brent said.

It’s a case looking for a new set of eyes.

Attorneys representing the Fluvanna Board of Supervisors filed a notice of appeal May 1 to theVirginia Supreme Court asking that court to reconsider its $18 million lawsuitagainst Davenport & Co. LLC. The suit is asking that Davenport be found responsible for misleading the board regarding the best method to finance the school. Davenport advised supervisors on bonds to fund construction of the new high school which is opening in August.  On Feb. 23, Fluvanna Circuit Court Judge Benjamin N.A. Kendrick dismissed the lawsuit, saying it was not the Circuit Court’s job to determine liability insuch cases.
