Lake Monticello’s Ron Krause, writer and producer and host of This Week at the Lake was the moderator. Since he didn’t have to do much moderating, he took on the role of host as audience members asked Douglass questions.
The questions covered a multitude of areas from foreign policy to civility in Congress to health care. Many of the questions Douglass answered were based on his vast military experience as a Brigadier General in the Air Force and former assistant Secretary of the Navy in the Reagan and Clinton administrations.
In his opening statement, Douglass said his platform is about helping Virginia families and giving them a better life. Krause asking Douglass how he would end the stalemate in Congress. His response to the Washington gridlock will be to encourage compromise and to avoid having professional politicians in Congress.
Hurt and Douglass will face at least one other candidate. A Fluvanna County man has announced he is running for the 5th District seat as an independent. Ben Hudson is a retired Army lieutenant colonel with more than 24 years in the military. He announced his candidacy at stops in Danville, Charlottesville and Fauquier County Wednesday, according to the Martinsville Bulletin newspaper.
