Piedmont announces 2012-13 performing arts season

Virtuoso juggler, magician, inventor, musician and comedian David Kaplan kicks off the season Friday (Sept. 7), at 7:30 p.m. Whether he’s juggling bean bag chairs, playing a melody on “concert balloon,” or defying the laws of physics with a bowling ball, Kaplan’s preposterous blend of dazzling skill and shameless gimmickry is fun for the entire family.

The PVCC art gallery begins its season Friday (Sept. 14), with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. for “Paintings, Drawings and Studies,” featuring the works of John Randall Younger, and “A Few Good Men,” featuring artists Aaron Eichorst, Billy Hunt and Steve Taylor.

Charlottesville-based photographer Hunt will be on hand at the opening reception with his Screamotron3000, a converted boom box that takes a photo when you scream. Hunt’s scream portraits have been featured on the TODAY show, the Huffington Post, Wired Magazine (blog) and National Public Radio (blog).
