Tennis players offered equipment tips

The tennis racquet is one of the most important parts of your tennis equipment.   Just because it is expensive does not mean that it is the right one for you. The playing style of each player usually determines the right kind of racquet.  The size, head weight, frame material and strings of the racquet can affect your shot.

It is very important to choose a right tennis racket for your child. The U.S. Tennis Association recommends rackets 19 inches to 21 inches long for kids ages five and six. Kids age seven and eight should use rackets up to 23 inches long. Nine- and 10-year-olds can use rackets up to 25 inches long. Children who are 12 and older as well as adult players will need to choose a racket that is 27 inches long.

A good method of selecting a tennis racket is to demo a few rackets before you decide on one.

The next important piece of equipment is a good pair of tennis shoes. A good pair of tennis shoes is important towards preventing injuries. Your footwear should be properly matched to the anatomy of your feet and the surface you play on. Ill-fitting shoes can lead to blisters, ankle and knee pain, and loss of movement on the court. When wearing right shoes   you’ll feel good and play your best tennis.

Other than a good tennis racket and shoes you would also want to invest in a good tennis bag. If you play in tournaments you should have at least two rackets of the same kind and a tennis bag helps you to carry your rackets around. You can also use your bag to carry tennis balls, a water bottle and change of clothing.

All tennis players should remember to restring their racket at least each three to six months.  Your strings will loosen over time even if you don’t play tennis a lot. Today, strings manufactures produce a wide variety of strings to help your individual style of play.
