In a cost saving measure, the Fluvanna County School Board voted tonight (Feb. 13) to close Cunningham and Columbia Elementary Schools, effective July 1, 2013.
Cunningham and Columbia Principal Sue Davies was despondent. Superintendent Gena Keller was emotional. “It’s still extremely tough to speak about because
there are so many loses that might come out of any gain from this,” said Keller. “There won’t be many of us that are untouched by this.”
The decision has the potential to save the school board $750,000 next year. — Kristin Sancken
