This action was specifically taken in order to bring the proposal – benefits, flaws, and all – before the public in a hearing scheduled for Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. at the high school auditorium. The supervisors, county administrator, and county attorney all agreed that there are several significant issues with the proposal that warrant serious discussion. However, not voting to bring the matter to a public hearing would have essentially killed the idea there and then. And, as evidenced by the unanimous vote, all the supervisors wished the public to have the opportunity to weigh in.
The Board also voted to approve the agreement with the Department of Corrections to provide a much smaller amount of water and sewer to Zion Crossroads. This vote does not obligate the supervisors to any action but merely reserves their spot should they wish to move forward. With nothing to lose, the supervisors passed the motion 5-0.
In other matters, the Board unanimously approved Superintendent Gena Keller’s supplemental funding request for the fiscal year 2013 in the amount of just under $500,000. This need is due to an unforeseen shortfall in state funding and is being faced by localities across the state.
