School days

In the original calendar, students were scheduled off those days, but the School Board unanimously voted to require attendance on Feb. 14, 17 and March 14 to make up for all the days students missed because of recent inclement weather.

In a special meeting called at 4 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 30) School Superintendent Gena Keller asked the Board to vote to hold school on Feb. 14. The other days were built into the calendar, but adding Feb. 14 required a special vote.

Keller said when she presents the calendar for next year, she will consider other options for dealing with inclement weather.

Some suggestions are extending the school day by as little as 10 minutes and shortening spring break. But those issues will be decided in future meetings. –Ruthann Carr
