The next two Flucos to finish were both freshman. Haley Kennedy was 21st, and Saige Haney was right behind her at 22nd. Also in the mix for the Flucos were senior Peyton Olinger, junior Bridget Bossong and sophomore Jackie Rodriquez these girls took 28th, 33rd and 35th. The top five finishers count toward the team score, so the Flucos came in with 88.
Coach Rose Brogan notes that “all the girls ran a good race.” She is hoping that the team will do much better on Wed. (Oct. 29) when it will compete in the Conference 23 meet at Handley High School, and that the team will be able to advance to Regionals and even to the State meet.
Runners who will compete at the Conference 23 meet include Kristen Cabrera, Hayley Kline, Haley Kennedy,Saige Haney, Sarah Spitler, Peyton Olinger and Bridget Bossong.
The Fluco boys team was led at the Jefferson District meet by senior Travis Moe who covered the 5K course in 16:43:53, which was good enough for fifth place overall. This performance qualified Moe for All-District honors.
Other runners for the Flkuco boys team included: junior Andy Guess, 26th,
freshman Jack Rice, 32nd, junior Jonathan Corbin, 33rd, junior Morgan Milburn, 37th, senior Matt Jonkman 43rd and junior Kegan Campanelli 48th. The Fluco boys finished 6th out of eight.
Both the girls’ and the boys’ cross country teams this year had a number of underclassman among their top runners. Accordingly, both teams should be in good shape for the 2015 season.
