Richard graduated from Massapequa High School, NY in 1960. As a Captain in the US Army, he commanded a NATO Missile Detachment. He received a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering, Magna Cum Laude, from Northrup University, where he also directed research. Later he earned his MBA from Pepperdine University. He then started his career at Rockwell International in positons of program management; systems engineering; financial planning; business development & operations director on numerous programs including GPS, Trident Sub Ship Stations, satellite, sonar, radar, sensor and missile technologies. He retired from Boeing in 2000. After Richard & Kim retired to Lake Monticello, he became active in his community with the Lake Monticello Contracts & Solicitations Committee, the Broadcast Group, Program Manager-5 year plan, and the Fluvanna County Citizens Water Committee.
He wanted no service, but to be cremated and scattered between Catalina Island and Seal Beach, CA, in a private memorial by his family and close friends, who will uphold his wishes. In lieu of flowers, please make a generous donation to Lake Monticello Fire & Rescue, 10 Slice Road, Palmyra, Virginia 22963, as this team of highly dedicated volunteers came to our aid several times throughout the years.
When Richard gave the eulogy for his brother, he said he never lived a day of his life without Phil in it. Now, for his family and friends, we must say we will never live another day of our lives without thoughts of Richard, Nick, Bunk, Richie, Daddy, Papa…we miss you so much.
Thacker Brothers Lake Monticello Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
