He was born on Dec. 17, 1933, in New York, N.Y., the son of the late David J. and Julia (Fedilchak) Dallanegra.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Helen Marie (Messemer) Dallanegra on Jan. 20, 2016.
Mr. Dallanegra retired as a homicide detective with the New York Police Department (NYPD) after 31 years of service. He was a veteran, having served his country in the United States Army. He loved spending time with his family, and cherished time with his grandchildren. Upon retiring, he enjoyed spending his days playing golf.
Survivors include five children, Helene Lyon and husband Donald of Charlottesville, Va.; Steven Dallanegra and wife Robin of Shoreham, N.Y.; Jean McCloskey of Patchogue, N.Y.; Linda Dallanegra of Lake Monticello, Va. and Susan Schaefer and husband, Thomas of Holtsville, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, Shannon, Matthew and Lindsey Lyon; Michael and Andrew Dallanegra; James and Julie McCloskey; and Thomas and Jessica Schaefer; three great-grandchildren, Marlowe and Reese Dallanegra and Logan Moskowitz.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Palmyra. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia.
