Fred was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Aug. 30, 1936, to the late Frederick Hansen and late Grace (Couzens) Hansen.
Raised in Spring Valley, N.Y., Fred attended Lakeside School, Spring Valley High School, and received a degree in finance and accounting from Pace University. Fred was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving four years in Nebraska, Turkey, and Germany with a rank of senior airman. After his honorable discharge, he went on to work 35 years for Avon Products in New York City and Rye, N.Y. As a manager, he was responsible for world-wide installation of manufacturing computer systems. He was an avid sportsman and golfer.
Fred is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 46 years, Joan; his son, Wayne Hansen; stepson, Peter Beanland and his wife, Ame; stepdaughter, Renée Turcott and her husband, Joseph; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
The family would like to thank the medical staff at the University of Virginia and Emily Couric Cancer Center for their excellent care and compassion. A memorial service will be held in his honor. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the University of Virginia Health Foundation.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Palmyra. Internment will be held at 3 p.m. at Monticello Memory Gardens following a reception at the church.
