Robert Conley Gordon, 82, of Lake Monticello, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 with his family by his side.
He was born on March 27, 1935, in Great Falls, Montana, son of the late Wayne and Eileen (Conley) Gordon spending his early years in Montana, Idaho, and Washington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry and Ken Gordon.
After high school Bob joined the US Army and served two years in various posts completing his service working on the NIKE missile site in Buckman, Pennsylvania. Bob married Faye Taylor in 1958 in Missoula, Montana and celebrated 58 years of marriage prior to his death.
Bob and family moved to Virginia in 1962 continuing his career with the US Government taking a position in Washington DC as a Systems Analyst. Bob retired from the US Government after 30 years of service and carpooling. After retirement Bob and Faye moved to Palmyra, and have lived there since 1995.
Bob was active in the community volunteering with the Jaycees in Manassas, Virginia and continuing in retirement with the Fluvanna Habitat for Humanity, and the Environmental Control Commission (ECC) at Lake Monticello.
Bob enjoyed traveling and camping but his passion was woodworking and he shared that passion through gifts to family and friends with many fine pieces of furniture, rocking horses, and intricate wood carvings.
Survivors include his wife Faye (Taylor) Gordon of Lake Monticello; three children, Matthew Gordon and his wife Lisette of Gainesville, Tracy Schlegel and her husband Jeff of Bristow, and Steven Gordon of Centreville; four grandchildren, Nicholas Schlegel, and Lucas, Evelyn, and Seth Gordon; a sister-in-law, Joan Gordon of Florence, Arizona; a niece, Kelly Gordon Grigsby of Snohomish, Washington and Craig Gordon of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; and cousin Patricia Battan of Spokane, Washington.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3:00 until 5:00 pm on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Thacker Brothers Lake Monticello Funeral Home to celebrate Bob’s life.
