Larry Alonzo Jones was a wonderful husband, father, mentor, friend and a true man of God. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lois, his three children, Larry Jr., Kathy, and Ken (Kenny), his brothers Johnny and Jimmy, and his sister Betty.
Prior to suffering from a stroke in 2004, there was no such thing as a stranger to Larry. It never mattered where he was, at work, the mall, a restaurant, anywhere at any time, everyone was fair game to strike up a conversation, and it was rarely one-sided. The lives he touched found his charm and warm heart captivating and endearing.
These traits set the stage for him to share his first love and that was for the Lord. He was very active in the church at Laurel Avenue Church of Christ from the 1950s until 1995 when he and Lois moved from Chesapeake to Charlottesville, Va. They immediately “plugged in” to service at Cherry Ave Christian Church in Charlottesville and ultimately supported Cherry Ave’s efforts to plant a new church near Lake Monticello, Lake Christian Church.
His health started to decline in February 2016 and needed more support than Lois could provide. They moved to an assisted living facility in Dover, Del., to be closer to their son, Kenny, for an extra helping hand. Time took its toll on Larry’s body, and the Lord called him home after a race well run, a job well done and a life well lived.
Services will be private.
