Peter Almonte, born in Brooklyn, died peacefully in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he had been living in a senior care facility. Although an architect by profession, he was best known in Charlottesville and Fluvanna County for his interesting and fine watercolors.
Peter fell in love with Lake Monticello many years ago and had owned a plot of land there for many years. His retirement from his architectural practice allowed him to finally make the move to Virginia which opened meaningful opportunities for him. Having the leisure to pursue his painting was certainly at the top of this list but also to enjoy his fellow golf and tennis friends and boating on the Lake, often with his dog, Tsarina, at the helm.
Peter was a member of several art groups and always enjoyed meeting and talking with fellow artists. Modest and generous, he always bought an item from his artist friends, especially when such friends’ work was featured in a gallery exhibit, as a sign of his support.
Peter’s caring, gracious, generous, non-judgmental, friendly nature will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a fine example of humility and modesty.
Peter is survived by two sons, Paul and Andrew, and a granddaughter, “Annie.”
There will be a private graveside memorial in a family plot in Brooklyn.
