Thomas Joseph Farruggio, 51, husband, father, son, brother, uncle, coach and teacher, died on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, due to complications from heart surgery. Although originally from Freeport, N.Y., he made a home for his family in Palmyra, Va.
Tom was born on Aug. 31, 1966, and spent his childhood in Freeport, N.Y., in a large, loving Italian family, where he learned his love for food and his most important focus in life, his family, as well as being a father and a teacher. It was in the side yard driveway of his Freeport home where he, with his late father Angelo, found his passion for cars. Family, teaching, food, and cars – these exemplified Tom’s life.
Tom is survived by his wife, Carrie, his children Hannah, Andrew, and Olivia, his mother Lorna, his brothers Michael and his wife Jan, James and his wife Diane, Christian, his sisters Janine, and her husband Glen, and Ingrid and her husband Al, as well as many nieces and nephews who adored him. He is preceded in death by his father and patriarch, Angelo Joseph Farruggio.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, at Calvary Chapel, at 2772 Thomas Jefferson Parkway (Route 53) in Palmyra, from 12-2 p.m. Please come celebrate Tom’s life and meet his friends and family.
