William Robert “Bob” Falconer, Jr., 79, of Palmyra, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, at his home due to complications related to Parkinson’s Disease.
Bob was born on May 1, 1939, in Amherst County, Va., a son of the late William Robert “Rob” Falconer Sr. and Katherine Mae “Kitty” (Foster) Falconer.
Bob graduated from Amherst County High School and Virginia Tech. He served a tour of duty with the U.S. Army. He worked at Union Oil Co. of California in Los Angeles and retired from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
Along with his devotion to his family, Bob loved fishing, reading, music, the outdoors, science and history. He loved to tell stories about growing up on a farm in Amherst and helping his parents run a country store near the Coolwell Road whistle stop.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years: Linda Phillips Falconer of Palmyra; four children: Kelly Falconer Miller (Rob) of Tampa, Fla., W. Robert “Bucky” Falconer (Ashley) of Palmyra, Julie Lynn Falconer (Marty) of Clarksburg, Md., and Christine Falconer Wade (Johnny) of Verona, Va.; four grandchildren: Tyler Allan Wade, Morgan Taylor Wade (Alex), Rachel Elizabeth Miller, and Megan Wiley Miller.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Piedmont for their exceptional care; special family friend Sherry Martin for her support and kindness over the years; and good friend Johnnie Falkins for his devotion to Bob during his last months.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018 at Thacker Brothers Lake Monticello Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
