Fluco swim teams open the season with strong performances

The Fluco boys’ and girls’ swim teams opened their seasons Wednesday (Nov. 28) in a three-way meet with Waynesboro High and Rockbridge High.

Coach Feda Morton reported that the boys’ team topped Waynesboro 95-41 and Rockbridge 89-80 to take first place in the meet. The girls’ team took second place, blowing out Waynesboro 115-55, but falling to Rockbridge 76-93.

Both the boys’ and the girls’ medley relay teams took first and swam fast enough to meet the qualifying time for the year-end State meet. The boys’ team consisted of Jack Kershner, Gus Jones, and Hunter and Owen Strickland. The girls’ team consisted of Emma DiFazio, Abby Harlow, Ally Lounsbury and Maialen Zabaleta. These relay teams also won the 200 free relays.

Individual winners for the Flucos included: Hunter Strickland, first in the 200 IM, DiFazio in the 50 free, Zabaleta in the 100 free and the 100 back, Owen Strickland in the 100 back, and Harlow and Jones in the 100 breast. Second place finishers included: Owen Strickland in the 50 free, Harlow and Jones in the 100 fly, Hunter Strickland in the 100 free, and Kershner in the 100 back.
