George Daniel (Dan) Reuther, Jr.

George Daniel (Dan) Reuther, Jr., passed away in his home March 11, 2019, at the age of 86 after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer. Dan was born and raised in Floral Park, N.Y. After graduation from high school and four years active duty in the U.S. Air Force, he worked for Grumman Aerospace until retirement in 1990.

In June 1992 he moved to his “heaven on earth,” Lake Monticello, where he enjoyed many hours on the golf course with his wife and numerous great golfing buddies. He loved going on golf excursions locally and beyond, including the two months he spent annually at St. Simons Island, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 22 years, Barbara Mary Ericson, with whom he had two children; his second wife of 23 years, Dolores Evelyn Thomas; his parents, George D. Reuther, Sr. and Ruth Lyes; and his sister, Georgianna Reid.

Dan is survived by his fiancée of 15 years, Marilyn Hale of Lake Monticello; his sister Ruth Josephine Graf of Oceanside, Calif.; his daughter, Deborah Jean Munch (Tom) of West Islip, N.Y.; his son Glenn Daniel Reuther (Alice) of Lake Monticello; and his stepdaughter, Carol Ann Licardi (Jimmy) of West Islip, N.Y. He is also survived by grandchildren Tara Jean Adams, Christie Ann Munch, Glenn Daniel Umberto Reuther, and Steven and Nicky Licardi; great-grandchildren Nehemiah and Raquel Adams; several nieces and a nephew; and numerous extended family and friends. His best buddy in the whole world, Beji, will forever miss the hours of pet scratching Dan always provided.

A memorial service will be held March 30, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Palmyra United Methodist Church with a reception following from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Pub at the Lake Monticello golf course.

In lieu of flowers, Dan asked that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, Va., 22911.
