Howard E. Halfacre

May 17, 1926 – March 28, 2019

Mr. Howard E. Halfacre was a faithful husband, an adorable father, a magnificent grandfather and a gentle great-grandfather. He went home to be with the Lord from his home with his family present after a brief stay at Martha Jefferson Hospital. He was the oldest of 11 children. Halfacre is survived by his wife of 67 years, Norma, three sons, three grandsons, five granddaughters, eight great-grandsons, and five great-granddaughters. He also is survived by a sister, Mrs. Phyllis Cogdill, and three brothers, Mr. Louie Halfacre, Mr. Patrick Halfacre, Sr., and Mr. Tony Halfacre.

Halfacre joined the United States Navy in 1942 at the age of 16. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters and was wounded at the Battle of Okinawa in 1945 when a Kamikaze aircraft hit his ship, the USS Wake Island, CVE65. He retired as master chief petty officer after 24 years of service. He then went on to work 20 years in civil service as the superintendent of public works, Norfolk Naval Station.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held April 20 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Fluvanna in Palmyra. The family wishes to thank Sheridan Funeral Home for their assistance.
