The Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors decided Wednesday (March 27) to advertise a real property tax rate of 93.5 cents per $100 valuation.
The current equalized tax rate is 89.3 cents, so if supervisors adopt the advertised rate, taxes will increase by about 4.7 percent.
Supervisors are not locked into this rate and may decide to set taxes lower than 93.5 cents. They cannot set the rate higher, however, without restarting the advertising process.
At 93.5 cents, the budget includes about $450,000 in additional money for the schools, a new sheriff’s deputy and vehicles, and three new vehicles for the fire department.
Supervisor Don Weaver was the only one to vote against the advertised rate.
The board will hold a public hearing on the budget and tax rates April 17 at 7 p.m. in the Fluvanna Circuit Courtroom. They are scheduled to finalize the budget and tax rates April 24.
