Flucos rally for win; headed to championships

Amazing rally in bottom of sixth inning leads to 11-4 win

The number one seeded Flying Fluco baseball team hosted the number four seeded Broadway High Gobblers in 3C Region play on Tuesday (May 28). The Gobblers headed into the bottom of the sixth inning, in a seven inning game, with a 4-1 lead.

Andrew Ward led off the sixth for the Flucos with a long home run to right field. After a ground out, the Broadway manager lifted his starting pitcher to bring in lefty reliever to face left hand batting Kevin Ward, who was two for two at that point. The reliever walked Ward and Cameron Shields to put the tying run on base. Another reliever came in and was greeted by sharp singles by Mason Gross, Toby Sherman and Kyle Algieri. Algieri’s single tied the game and loaded the bases. A.J. Brown grounded to short and the throw to second was wide, the go ahead run scored and the bases were still loaded. Lead-off batter Ryan Groome singled to score two and the game was basically over. The Flucos were not done as they ultimately batted 15 and scored 10 in the inning. The Flucos now travel to Liberty Bedford High, just past Lynchburg, on Thursday (May 30) for the Region 3C championship game.
