Track and field takes second and third at District meet

Fluvanna County High School hosted the Jefferson District annual track and field meet April 30. The boys and girls teams both turned in solid performances. The boys took second place, while the girls finished in third.

Eli Hartzog took two first places for the boys, with the longest throws in both the discus and the shot put. Ledric Reid was first for the Flucos in the 110-meter hurdles, while Christian Holland was the long jump champion. Second place finishers included Dante Eddings in the 100-meter dash, Jared Newman in the 110-meter hurdles, and Colby Martin in the triple jump. In addition, the 4X100 meter relay team captured second place. The team consisted of Prophett Harris, Christian Holland, Martin and Eddings. Coach Steve Szarmach said he was very excited about these performances, which included a number of personal bests.

For the girls’ squad the only event winner was Delaney Reed in the discus. Second place finishers were Khyariah Davis in shot put and Amina Wilson in pole vault. Third place finishers included Ashlee Pieno in pole vault and Jules Shepherd in long jump and high jump.

Top Fluco athletes are looking forward to competing in the Region meet May 23. Many Flucos are also qualified for the State meet, which will be held May 30 through June 1.
