Barbara Anne (Byrd) Ropka, 72, of Palmyra, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville. She was born on Dec. 2, 1946, in Elbert, W.Va., the daughter of the late Julian Eugene and Anna Marie (Wadosky) Byrd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Ray Byrd.
Barbara retired from the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Corrections, where she had worked at the Center For Staff Development and Training Academy in Goochland, Va.
Survivors include a multitude of special cousins and other extended family members, as well as many cherished friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2019, at Thacker Brothers Lake Monticello Funeral Home, 138 Heritage Drive, in Palmyra, Va. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro, Va.
