The Lake Monticello Golf Course is in excellent shape and a number of events are on the schedule for the coming months.
Three scheduled fundraiser tournaments include the Saints Peter and Paul Golf Tournament that is just around the corner on July 14, the Rivanna Lions Club Tournament that will take place Sept. 14, and the Phil Browning Memorial Tournament on Sept. 29. These events will all be contested in the standard benefit tournament format: four players on a team playing best ball on all holes. In this format, all four players tee off, the best shot is selected and all four players hit their second shot from that point. This continues until the ball is in the hole.
September will be a busy month at the Lake Monticello course. In between the two events listed above there will be the BRAC Golf Tournament on Sept. 24. Lake Monticello golf professional Mark Marshall said that his tournament will be held by a group that has rented the course for the first time. He does not know for certain what the event’s format will be.
A number of insider events are also scheduled in the near future. The two day member-member competition will be contested July 27-28. As its name suggests, this competition is for Lake Monticello members only.
August 17-18 brings the annual championship weekend. This is a medal play competition for all ages and genders. The women’s competition is not divided by age; however, on the men’s side there will be a men’s champion, a senior men’s champion and a super-senior men’s champion. All golf contract holders and all Lake Monticello property owners are eligible to play.
Another members-only event, the Couples Championship, is scheduled for Sept. 21. There will be a nine-hole competition and an 18-hole competition. The 18-hole competition will start at 12:30 p.m. and the nine-hole competition will start at 2:30 p.m., so that all teams will end up coming into the clubhouse at approximately the same time.
Throughout the summer, the women’s nine-hole and 18-hole groups will play Tuesday mornings and the Gray Foxes senior men’s groups will compete Thursday and Friday mornings.
