The Fluvanna Aquatic Sports Team (FAST) traveled to Stanardsville July 10 for a meet against the Greene Hills Gators. FAST fell to the Gators in a close 425-484 finish.
Four FAST swimmers swept their individual events. Abby Caruso (8) grabbed first in the 25-meter freestyle in an impressive 19.81 seconds, the 25-meter backstroke in just 22.94 seconds, and the 25-meter butterfly in 21.91, a more than two-second drop. Bela Varga (12), in his first meet of the season, scored wins in the 50-meter freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke events. Jackson Kinsella (14) swept with wins in the 50-meter backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Emma DiFazio (17) led in the 50-meter freestyle, 50-meter backstroke with a time drop of 1.14 seconds, and the 50-meter butterfly.
FAST put up wins in the 50-meter freestyle events, with finishes by Harrison Williams (10), who dropped 1.76 seconds; Maya Hernandez (10), who dropped 1.04 seconds; and Anthony Caruso (14), who dropped 0.17 seconds.
In the backstroke, Ruth Grace D’Alessandro (10) and Shelby Crawford (13), with a significant 4.35-second time drop, secured firsts.
Wins in breaststroke went to Esther D’Alessandro (7) in the 25-meter, and Joey Hagan (15) in the 50-meter.
Finishing first in the butterfly events were Reed Williams (7) in the 25-meter, and Maya Hernandez (10) and Landon Mayhew (11) in the 50-meter.
The meet ended with the long freestyle events. Esther D’Alessandro (7) swam to first in her 50-meter freestyle, while older sister R.G. took first in the 100-meter. Elizabeth Bryant (11) dropped 2.23 seconds to win her 100-meter freestyle. Anthony Caruso (14) and Joey Hagan (15) each captured their second wins of the night in their 100-meter freestyles.
FAST’s final regular season meet took place Wednesday (July 17) away with the Louisa Gators. The Jefferson Swim League Championship Meet will be Friday and Saturday (July 26-27) at the University of Virginia Aquatics Center.
