Sheriff: Gatherings of 10 or more prohibited

Press release

The Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office is committed to doing our part to help ensure the health and safety or our citizens. We want to remind everyone that Governor Northam’s Executive Order Number Fifty- Three is now in effect and will remain in effect until April 23, 2020 at 11:59 pm. Under this order, gatherings of ten or more, in public or private, are prohibited.

Certain restrictions and or closures have been placed on a wide variety of businesses while other retail

businesses are exempt. There are no in state travel restrictions at this time. Grocery stores, drug stores,

hardware stores, and dollar stores, along with some other stores, are exempt from the 10 patron limit and remain open. Other specialty stores may have a 10 patron limit or have been ordered to close. As food and drug stores remain open, there is no need for hoarding. As in any emergency, we encourage all households to have two weeks of food and supplies on hand.

Our hope is that all people will voluntarily comply with the restrictions and conditions of this order. We also want to remind everyone that Executive Order Fifty-Three does carry the weight of law. Anyone who violates the order could be charged with a criminal offense. This includes the business owner, operator, manager, employee, or patron. We again ask that everyone please comply with the terms and conditions of this order.

These business closures and modifications are hitting our area businesses hard. We encourage all residents to shop and dine locally however possible. Many restaurants are offering take-out service. If we all pull together as a community, support our neighbors and our local businesses, we can make it through this epidemic. We thank you all for your continued support.
