Carlos P. Burns of Lake Monticello died peacefully at home on November 7, 2020 at the age of 94. Carlos joined his beloved wife, Jean, whom he lost seven years ago almost to the day. He was born on November 7, 1926 in Siler City, NC. His parents were Andrew Burns and Effie Burns of Siler City, NC.
After a short stint in the navy during World War II, Carlos went to work for General Foods Corporation where he worked for 35 years, moving up the corporate ladder and around the country with his wife, Jean, and their three children. Carlos fulfilled his retirement dream when he built, and he and Jean moved into, their home on Lake Monticello 39 years ago.
He is survived by two children, Carlos A. Burns, and his wife, Kathy, of Lake Monticello, VA, and Joan Sargent and her husband, Tom, of Westport, CT. His son, Thomas H. Burns, passed away in 2019. He was blessed with seven treasured grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his younger brother, Robert Burns, and his wife, Rita, of Glendale, CA.
Carlos was an active member of Effort Baptist Church, an avid golfer, and loved being out on the lake in his boat. In 1992 he opened his pride and joy, Fluvanna Self Storage. Carlos would often be seen walking through houses under construction and talking with both the owners and construction crews. Carlos, a gregarious and engaged personality, loved meeting new people and enjoyed exchanging life stories. He was well known, loved and respected by the community.
