Press release
In response to the continued economic difficulties caused by the pandemic, the Fluvanna Rotary is sponsoring its third food drive at Lake Monticello to benefit the children and families in Fluvanna County. Food pickup will be between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19.
MACAA, Fluvanna’s food bank, continues to serve a record number of families during this crisis. It’s in dire need of non-perishable food items to be distributed to needy families – especially things like canned vegetables, canned milk, boxes of instant potatoes, stuffing mix, macaroni and cheese, canned and dried soups, cranberry sauce, canned fruit and fruit juice, Jell-O mixes, pasta, noodles and spaghetti sauce, granola bars, cereals and oatmeal, pancake mix and syrup.
“As we approach Thanksgiving, the need is particularly great,” said organizers Betsy Gunnels and Peggy Shanklin. “We want to make sure all Fluvanna families have what they need for a happy Thanksgiving, and for the rest of the year.”
Food items should be placed by your mailbox between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in a plastic bag or box. Pickup will begin about 10:15 a.m. It will help our volunteers sort the items if you please place similar items in the same bag. For instance, canned veggies in one bag or box together, canned fruits in a different bag, cereal, pasta and other dry goods boxes in one bag together and juices and drinks in another.
Cash or check donations are also welcome, and the Rotary Foundation of Fluvanna County will provide a matching contribution for the first $2,500 of donations. Send donations to Rotary Foundation of Fluvanna County, 265 Turkey Sag Trail, Suite 102, PO Box 114, Palmyra, VA 22963. Write MACAA Food Drive in the memo line.
Fluvanna Rotary Club is following the safe guidelines and procedures implemented by MACAA to keep our community and volunteers safe.
If your items are not picked up by 2 pm please call Betsy Gunnels at 434 996-9797 or Peggy Shanklin at 434-962-2762.
