On Sunday, December 6, 2020, Martha K. Rossi, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away just a few weeks shy of 90 years old.
Martha was born on December 23, 1930 in New York, NY to Julius and Augusta Kling. She graduated from NYC Community College in 1955 and began her career as a dental hygienist. On April 23, 1960, she married Alfred Robert Rossi, and they raised two sons, Robert and William.
Martha had many passions which she shared with her husband, Al, who predeceased her by 16 years. During their 44 years of marriage, they were together nearly 24 hours a day, creating beautiful works of art that received many awards and will live on in business and private collections. Martha also shared Al’s love for restoring old sports cars and traveling with friends in the New England MG “T” car club which was the center of their social life for many years.
Since moving to Virginia in 1996, Martha was very active in the Palmyra United Methodist Church where she had many friends. She lovingly made prayer shawls and blankets, assisted Habitat for Humanity and helped with whatever in the church needed to be done.
Martha was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was always there for her sons, cheering at their baseball games and serving as a cub scout den mother. Martha was known for her infectious smile, an ever-present twinkle in her eyes, her sharp “Bronx” wit and her kind and compassionate spirit.
Martha is survived by her two sons, Robert and William; her daughter in law, Jeannette; her brother, Edward; her granddaughters, Lauren and Katherine; her great grandson, Harvey; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations may be considered for the Palmyra United Methodist Church Camp Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 151, Palmyra, VA, 22963, or to one’s favorite charity.
