Dave was born on November 12, 1945 in New York City to Virginia Wolf and Charles Wirth. At age 5 his family moved to Baldwin, Long Island, New York. Dave met the love of his life, his wife Lynn, in 1964 and they married in 1966. They have two daughters, Michelle and Stephanie. Dave graduated from Baldwin High School in 1963, Franklin and Marshall College in 1968 and Adelphi University in 1994 where he earned a long- awaited MBA.

Dave had a varied career beginning in retail, moving to office administrative services and finally becoming an IT Telecommunications specialist working at Adelphi and later Princeton University. Dave was a fabulous handyman, if it broke, he could fix it. He also enjoyed woodworking especially turning pens and handles, on a lathe. He also made unique Christmas ornaments from architectural moldings that he enjoyed gifting to friends and family. One of his great gifts was singing. He had a beautiful tenor voice and loved to sing. He sang in many choirs and choruses from the time he was in high school to, most recently, at Grace and Glory Lutheran Church and The Fluvanna Community Singers. A lifelong Lutheran he actively participated in the life of the church often times taking on leadership roles. One of those roles was coordinating area churches in the Feeding Fluvanna Food Drive. Through this effort many tons of food and thousands of dollars were donated to helping neighbors in need.

Dave was diagnosed with cancer in March of 2019; he fought a hard battle for nearly two years.
