Barbara Ellen Totaro

August 4, 1933 – May 5, 2021

Barbara Ellen Totaro, 87, of Lake Monticello, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 in the comfort of her home surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Forney, Texas on August 4, 1933, she was predeceased by her parents Michael William Dennehy and Catherine Ann Adams.

Barbara devoted her life to God, her late husband Alfred Anthony Totaro, and their seven children. She spent her life giving to others, rarely thinking of herself all the while raising seven great kids with selfless charity and perseverance.

She was an active parishioner of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church as a choir member, involved with the annual bazaar and bake sale, and numerous other events. She was part of the Lake Monticello Beautification Committee and a past president of the Piecemakers Quilting Group. Barbara’s other passions included volunteering at the Fluvanna County Library, gardening, and golfing.

She is survived by six daughters: Diane Beesley of New Jersey, Janet Totaro of California, Carolyn Sizemore of Florida, Susan Cullen of Maryland, Nancy Placide of Virginia, and Ann Totaro of Florida; one son: William Totaro of New Jersey; one brother: Donald Dennehy of Texas; one sister: Joanne Marriott of Colorado; and fourteen beloved grandchildren.

The visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 13 at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Palmyra, Virginia followed by a Mass of Resurrection, which will be celebrated at 11:00 AM by Father David Ssentamu. Interment will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends after the burial.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lake Monticello Fire & Rescue Squad, 10 Slice Road Palmyra, VA 22963 or Hospice of Piedmont (via hopva.org/donate-online-now/) in memory of Barbara Totaro.
