Flucos take victory lap

More than 65 graduating Flucos took a victory lap around Lake Monticello June 5 in a parade coordinated by the Lake Monticello Community Foundation.
This was the second time graduates paraded around the 10-mile Jefferson Drive loop before parading all the way to Fluvanna  County High School. Last year the first parade was organized because COVID restrictions impacted graduation. This year Fluvanna High School Counselor Erika Morris said she heard from many parents and students who wanted to do the parade again. She said the school would love to see the event become an annual tradition.

The parade included the graduates, Fluvanna County sheriff’s vehicles, Lake Monticello police and local fire and rescue vehicles as well as several classic cars. Lake Monticello residents were joined by the proud families of the graduates on the parade route. Some Lake residents even hosted viewing parties with signs and balloons. Boaters and kayakers gathered at the Lake Monticello main dam to watch the parade from the water.
