Palmyra woman wins $500,000 in Virginia lottery game

Press release

Tiffany Bryant was getting discouraged.

“I’m never going to win off these tickets. I don’t know why I play,” she remembers thinking.

That was just before she won $500,000 playing the Virginia Lottery’s $500,000 Cash Scratcher game.

“I was in complete shock!” the Palmyra woman told Lottery officials.

She bought her winning ticket at the CVS at 28 Abby Road in Palmyra.

One of dozens of Scratchers offered by the Virginia Lottery, $500,000 Cash (game #2048) features prizes ranging from $10 up to that $500,000 top prize. This is the second top prize claimed, which means one more $500,000 prize remains unclaimed. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 1,468,800. The odds of winning any prize in this game are 1 in 3.56.

Ms. Bryant is a nursing student. She said she intends to use her winnings to pay tuition.

Authorized by Virginia voters in a successful 1987 referendum, the Virginia Lottery generates more than $1.6 million per day for Virginia’s K-12 public schools. In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2020, lottery customers helped generate more than $595 million in funding for public education.
