Lake Monticello women golfers win third consecutive Jefferson Cup

The women golfers at Lake Monticello can really play, For the third year in a row, they have won the Jefferson Cup title. They bested teams from Greene Hills, Orchard Creek, Like of the Woods, Birdwood and Spring Creek.

The Lake team played each of these opponents once. The format was three two women teams competing in best ball matches. This means that, in each two women match, the team with the best net score of the two competitors on a hole wins one point. If the best net score of the opposing teams is the same score, each team gets one-half point. Accordingly, there are 18 points in each of the three matches for 54 points, in the team contest. In its five matches the Lake Monticello team won 149 ½ points, an average of just under 10 points per match. Greene Hills finished second with 142 ½ points. The last place team finished with 126 ½ points which is around eight points per individual match. This was, therefore, a very competitive competition as a 10-8 match is about as close as it can get.

A number of women played for the Lake Monticello team during this season. Including: Judy Kordella, Charlene French, Debbie Burke, Lorraine Berstresser, Barbara Scanlon, Ande Kirchenheiter, Alice Flanders, Chris Hoogmoed, Donna Dinora, Gaye Wormington, Heidi Maloney and Peggy Colville.
