PRESS RELEASE
On Sunday, Nov. 14, the newest Habitat home was officially dedicated. The ceremony took place at the home on 246 Charney Way in the Houchens Place community off South Boston Road. The event was well-attended by family, community leaders and Fluvanna Habitat volunteers. Pastor Walter Barrett of West Bottom Baptist Church graciously blessed the new home and homeowner.
Fluvanna Habitat for Humanity is building two homes per year in the Houchens Place community. When complete, the community will hold 26 homes, a recreation area and walking trails. Fluvanna Habitat uses dedicated volunteers and local contractors to build three-bedroom, two-bath energy efficient and environmentally responsible homes. This saves homeowners a considerable amount by reducing the actual cost of the home as well as reducing monthly energy costs.
Fluvanna Habitat for Humanity works with Fluvanna families who need an affordable home and who are willing to work with us as partners to become financially able homebuyers. Families must spend at least 100 hours in sweat equity participating in financial literacy and homeownership classes and helping to build homes.
The building and dedication of this home could not have been possible without our volunteers and community partners. We express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the following dedication donors:
- Calvary Chapel Fluvanna
- Cunningham United Methodist Church
- Effort Baptist Church
- Fluvanna Christian Service Society
- Fluvanna Chamber of Commerce
- Jonnie Oliver -Volunteer/Jefferson Pharmacy
- Lake Monticello Piecemakers
- Mission Crafters/South Plains Presbyterian
- Monticello Area Community Action Agency (MACAA)
- Rusty Nailz – Fluvanna Habitat Volunteer Team
- Sweet Art Emporium
