Winifred “Winnie” Browning, 88, of Lake Monticello, VA, passed away on February 4, 2022. She was born on February 10, 1933, in Richmond, VA to the late Robert Cleveland Perkins and Gertrude Rosson Perkins of Fork Union, VA. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Coleman Browning; infant son, Cary Perkins Browning; and three brothers, Robert Cleveland Perkins, Jr., James Lee Perkins and Isaac Otey Perkins, IV.
Winnie was a retired educator having taught in Gloucester and Fluvanna counties. She was a member and past deacon of Effort Baptist Church, a past member of the Point of Fork Daughters of American Revolution and a driver for Meals on Wheels.
Her favorite hobby was playing bridge with all of her great friends. She really loved her Lake Monticello friends and appreciated their acts of kindness during her illnesses. Winnie was a lifelong UVA football fan being a season ticket holder for more than 30 years. It is estimated that she didn’t miss more than five home games in that span as well as attending many bowl games. One of her fondest memories was spending time with her family in Nags Head, NC.
Winnie is survived by her children; her son, Philip C. Browning, Jr. and his wife, Joan Webber; his two sons, Ryan and Cameron; her son, Lee Browning and his wife, Tracy, and their two sons, Rosson and Luke; her youngest son, Dale Browning and his wife, Suzanne, and their two children, William and Lauren; and her daughter, Sally Browning, and her son, Cary.
A visitation was held February 11, 2022 at Effort Baptist Church. A memorial service was held February 12, 2022 at Effort Baptist Church with interment at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any contributions be made to the Lake Monticello Fire and Rescue, 10 Slice Road, Palmyra, VA 22963. Arrangements were handled by Sheridan Funeral Home in Kents Store, VA.
