Lt. Aaron Hurd received the 2022 Unsung Heroes Award from Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares on April 26. The Unsung Heroes Award program recognizes individuals who provide outstanding service and support to victims of crime in the Commonwealth.
Lt. Hurd, who leads the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations unit, was nominated for his outstanding work in child abuse and child sexual exploitation investigations.
Under his leadership, Lt. Hurd and his team of investigators work in tandem with the Fluvanna Department of Social Services and the Fluvanna County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office to investigate and prosecute crimes against children and internet crimes against children.
As a member of the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Lt. Hurd’s technical expertise and tenacity have led to the arrest, and successful prosecution, of multiple Child Sexual Assault Material (CSAM) offenders. Many of these cases are not publicized to protect the victims.
