Sharks kick off home opener

Ahead of the many weekend Fourth of July celebrations at Lake Monticello, the Sharks kicked off their home opener with a large crowd on June 29. The Sharks welcomed the Glenmore Tornadoes to “The Shark Tank” with a festive red, white, and blue theme and a lot of excitement.

Lake Monticello Owners Association President Steve Hurwitz spoke at the beginning of the meet to welcome everyone to the first home meet of the season, and to show his support of the LMST Sharks.

The Sharks lost to the Tornadoes with a final score of 412 to 623, but showed lots of time improvements, especially in the girls 9-10, 50 Meter Breaststroke, with  Annelise Campbell (9) taking first in the girls 9-10, 50 M Breaststroke, with a seed time of 1:02.96 and a finals time of 56.62, and in the girls 11-12, 100 M Freestyle Lila Kate Robinson(12) took first place with a seed time of 1:15.83 and a finals score of 1:12.59.  

According to Head Coach Maria Arroyo, “We had great team spirit at the meet, and it was nice to swim our first home meet of the season. The swimmers were so excited about their time drops in their events and we had swimmers drop over 10 seconds in some of their races.”

The Sharks had a strong showing in girls 9-10, 200 SC Meter Medley Relay, with Tegan Brown (10)  Annelise Campbell (9) Elliot Gehling (10) and Georgia Comer (10) taking first place in their relay.

Liam Poole (8) also took first place in the boys 8 & Under, 25 M Freestyle, and Elijah Jackson (8) took fourth, with a seed time of 28.68 and a finals time of 28.04.

The Sharks dominated the boys 6 & Under, 25 M Freestyle, with Lane Poole (6), Lucas Key (6) and Johnny Fornecker (6) taking first, second, and third places, respectively.

Special congratulations to LMST swimmers of the week, Paxton Strickland (9) and Schuyler Wingler (10).

On Wednesday, July 6, the LMST Sharks took on the Hollymead Hammerheads in another home meet. Go Sharks!
