Summer youth tennis thrives at Lake

Press Release

QuickStart Tennis of Central Virginia, Inc. (QCV) is pleased to report another session of summer tennis camp at Lake Monticello recently wrapped up. A total of 25 kids participated in the weeklong camp, with five kids waitlisted. The camp was started at Lake Monticello 13 years ago by resident Lynn Forsyth and continues today thanks to Betsy Gunnels, her husband Fred and a group of dedicated volunteers who want to pass on their love of tennis. This year’s volunteer instructors included: Alden Bigelow, John Dernbach, Jeannette Thillet, and Betsy and Fred Gunnels. They were assisted on-court by Lindy Prittie, Karen Christopherson, Karen O’Neil, Allyson Hopkins, Lisa Henry, Andrea Powell and some camper parents. Their goal is to start a Junior League for kids that will help them, as they grow into their teen years, to be able to participate at the high school level.

Organizer Betsy Gunnels said, “It was a fun week! All the instructors and volunteers are active tennis players at the Lake. At the end of camp, those kids who didn’t have their own racquets got to take one home.”
