Eugene Johnson Baker

Eugene Johnson Baker of Lake Monticello died peacefully Sunday, August 14, 2022 at the age of 87. He had lived a full and active life. 

Born August 2, 1935, he was the son of Walter and Viola Johnson Baker of Four Oaks, North Carolina. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Charlotte Cobb Baker.  He is also survived by his stepson Andrew L. Frame and wife Elizabeth Herndon Frame, whom he called his children. Other survivors include four devoted cousins: Larry Williams and wife Sylvia; Rodney Williams and wife Carolyn; Mike Williams and wife Linda; and Andrew Williams and wife Pat, all of North Carolina; a brother-in-law, George (Ty) Cobb and wife Barbara of Lake Monticello; many good friends from Fork Union Baptist Church; neighbors and members of Gene’s previous churches. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Julian Baker and Donald Baker. Gene was the last surviving member of his immediate family. 

After his graduation from Four Oaks High School, he graduated from Atlantic Christian College, now Barten College. He did his post graduate at Duke University and a 5-year term at lliff School of Theology, he was a graduate of Methodist Theological School in Denver, Colorado. Gene was the pastor of churches in Greene, Nelson and Albemarle Counties. 

After retiring from the ministry, he went into the real estate busines. He and his wife owned Baker and Baker, Inc. Together, they later worked with several other real estate companies. Both retired in October 2000.

Because of the wide spread of COVID, a private family service was held at Fork Union Memorial Cemetery. 

Anthony Clore, Pastor of Fork Union Baptist Church officiated. Sheridan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
