Former and current Fluvanna students earn AP Scholar awards

A total of 37 Fluvanna County High School students have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams during the 2021-2022 school year.  This compares with 36 receiving the recognition in 2020-2021.

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program® (AP®) provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. 

The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on students’ performance on AP Exams.

Eight students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. These students are:

  • Joseph O’Connor, George Mason University
  • Anne Robinson, Washington & Lee University
  • Emily Stevens, James Madison University
  • Emma Ward, FCHS 12th Grader
  • Rachel Warden, Clemson University
  • Riley Yowell, Princeton University

Eight students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. These students are:

  • Abigail Adams, FCHS 12th Grader
  • Anthony Caruso, University of Virginia
  • Aidan Girard, University of Mary Washington
  • Jocelynne Hagan, University of Mary Washington
  • Elizabeth Herrick, FCHS 12th Grader
  • Augustus Jones, North Caroline State University
  • Aden Melton, FCHS 12th Grader
  • Jacob Ondek, University of Virginia

Twenty-one students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with scores of 3 or higher. The AP Scholars are:

Of this year’s award recipients at Fluvanna County High School, 11 are currently enrolled at the high school.  These students have one or more years in which to complete college-level work and possibly earn a higher-level AP Scholar Award.

In addition to these honorees, Fluvanna County High School had seven students complete the AP Seminar and Research Certificate.  The AP Seminar and Research Certificate is granted to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in both AP Seminar and AP Research.

Four students also earned the AP Capstone Diploma.  To earn the AP Capstone Diploma, students must earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on four additional AP Exams of their choosing. This is an outstanding achievement, and the award is acknowledged on any AP score report that is sent to colleges after the award has been conferred.

Fluvanna County High School had 140 students take AP exams during the 2021-2022 school year with 27 percent of the test takers earning the AP Scholar honors.
