It was a very good season for the Fluvanna County High School volleyball team under Coach Christi Harlowe-Garrett. The Flucos finished 19-6, winning better than three out of four of their matches. They were 12-1 at home. On Nov. 4 they traveled to Lynchburg to take on Liberty Christian. The Flucos had to travel because the seeding for Region 3 Class C put the Flucos at the number five seed and Liberty Christian at four
Being the lower seed did not intimidate the Flucos at all. They topped Liberty Christian 3-1. As has been the case all year, the Flucos had very balanced statistics in their win. Freshman Molly McCall led in kills with 10, while senior Kayla Gentry and junior Isabelle Garrett both contributed nine kill shots. Senior Faith Shields was the team leader in assists, or sets, with 30. Digs were spread nearly as evenly as kill shots. Sophomore Jillian Davis had 18 digs, while senior Brooke Napier and Garrett had 11 and 14 respectively. Senior Shelby Crawford served five aces and Garrett had four.
In their semi-final game, the Flucos were again on the road, facing Fort Defiance High School, the number 1 seed. Fort Defiance came in with a 23-1 record. The Flucos were not able to handle the powerful Fort Defiance squad, losing 3-0, but the season was a huge success overall. Kayla Gentry led the Flucos in the Fort Defiance match in kill shots with eight, Shields led in assists with 20 and Davis led in digs with 15.
