The Fluvanna boys’ basketball team hosted Goochland County on Jan. 6. The outcome was never in doubt. The Fluco squad was hot and playing good defense. At the end of the first quarter, the score was a one-sided 30-8. The Flucos were just too good for Goochland and they extended their lead to a lopsided 52-22 at the half. In what may have been one of the lowest scoring quarters in Jefferson District boys basketball history the Flucos won the final quarter of this game 4-1.

As has been the case in many games this season, The Flucos were led in scoring by senior Bobby Gardner. He scored 26, including three three-point baskets. Also draining three from long range were senior guard Tyler Coleman and junior guard Chazz Barksdale-White. They each finished with 13 points. The Flucos were again far more efficient on three pointers than the opposition. They made 10 of 22 while Goochland was 1 of 13. Not surprisingly in a lopsided game like this one, the Flucos led in transition points 23-4 and in assists 17-6. Coach Heath Bralley got a lot of his squad into the game, as 11 players scored.

Coach Bralley said that that his team is really coming together with an impressive level of camaraderie. They will need to be supportive of each other as the season progresses and the opposition stiffens.

On Jan. 9, the Flucos hosted Orange County in a makeup game. On Jan. 10 they traveled to Monticello High School. On Jan. 13 they will be at home, hosting Louisa County. On Jan. 17 they will host Western Albemarle.
