Press Release
Fluvanna County Girl Scouts recently celebrated World Thinking Day.
Around the world, Feb. 22 is the day set aside every year for Girl Scouts and Guides to come together and learn about global issues that affect people now, and in the future. On this day, we connected with fellow Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the globe.
Here in Fluvanna each troop – 1106, 2039, 320, 353 and 1484 -picked a country to learn about. Through lots of research and resources we learned about the culture, landscape, financial system, animals and foods of the chosen country. We learned about the Girl Guides and Scouts of that area, their promise and law, the motto and uniforms, along with the differences and similarities between what we know as Girl Scouts here in America.
At the event each troop presented the country we learned about and shared food, drinks, and SWAPS. Each girl got a “passport” stamped through their travels from country to country. Every year the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts organization has a main theme for the girls to focus on to make the world a better place for all. This year we took to time to learn about protecting our environment. The girls created a poster display for the local library on ways to protect the earth by following the three R’s of Reducing, Reusing and Recycling.
We are currently forming new troops in Fluvanna. Do you have a girl in grades K -12 that is interested? Go to GSVSC.org to search for a troop by zip code or to get more info on becoming a leader.
